Turner Gill hoping ‘to find the right guy’ at QB ASAP

Kale Pick was named Kansas’ starting quarterback in the run-up to the season opener, but, based on the comments made by head coach Turner Gill, he had a tenuous hold at best on the job before this past weekend’s opener.

Following a performance that saw both a meager three points scored and a loss to Div. 1-AA North Dakota State? Pick could be one-and-done as the starter, at least for this Saturday.

Pick completed 13-of-22 passes for 138 yards and an interception before being pulled in the fourth quarter for backup Jordan Webb. Gill said Tuesday that it’s uncertain which quarterback will start against No. 15 Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon.

“We felt like we’ve always had two good quarterbacks,” Gill said. “We’ll continue to evaluate, and hopefully we’ll find the right guy as soon as possible.”

While the quarterback position garners the most attention for Kansas this week, perhaps the running game should be scrutinized underneath a harsh light as well. If you take away cornerback -- yes, cornerback -- Daymond Patterson‘s three carries for 63 yards, the Jayhawks rushed for just 46 yards on 20 carries.
